Louis XV


Louis the XV was the great grandson of Louis the XIV who in almost all ways was different from his great grandfather. He became king when he was only five years old. Lois the XV was a Political failure, and because of laxidasical leadership it was a tine of frivolity and luxury devoted to pleasure. He married at age 15 to Marry Leczinska who gave him 10 children in 12 years. He had 50 official mistresses but his favorite was Me de Pompadour.

Me de Pompadour was a educated, culture and refined woman who became key to French taste. This is the first period that has been influenced by a woman. She loved to play peasant with her friends. This influenced as new kind of pattern in textiles called Toile de Jouy. she love pastel colors and so it because the colors for this time. Fabrics were very feminine. This new style developed into what was called Rococo which is a combination of the word rockeries and cockleshells.

Me de pompadour even influenced the size of furniture. The furniture became lighter and more graceful. Curvilinear lines were used and the motif was the shell. The cabriole leg without stretchers were used in this furniture. The rooms were smaller for more intimate parties. This was really a time of feminine style.
